Εvo News installation on Euronav vessels

TI-Europe

Our fleet now has free local daily access to thousands of articles from our chosen local websites and in the chosen language of our crew, without the use of crew internet cards, without the need to have an active internet connection but through a user friendly adaptable interface using our own devices. We couldn’t think of a solution more efficient, cost effective and diverse than the one provided by MarPoint. Euronav Fleet Support Manager

Euronav is an owner operator and manager of ocean-going tankers dedicated to the safe and reliable transport of crude oil worldwide. Euronav fleet consists of over 50 (V-Plus, VLCCs and Suezmaxes) vessels.

PROBLEM/NEED:
Euronav was in need of a free Internet crew welfare service for its fleet, in order to provide an alternative to its crew that would not require them to use their paid crew internet cards. In addition, they wanted to change the news distribution process, as by that time all news were sent by email allowing only a small number of articles from limited, specific sources to be received.

SOLUTION:

Further to our client’s request we have put our development team to work and came up with our maritime RSS solution “Evo News”. The crew welfare service service offered the following capabilities:

  • 1. To send daily a vast number of compressed articles and news from different countries and languages as they are sent via links/RSS of local sites of the crew
  • 2. To limit the internet usage of the service to only a few MB, as more than 150 complete articles (with pictures) or more than 1000 articles (text only) can be send to any vessel with only one MB
  • 3. To choose the articles delivered to each vessel by crew nationality (i.e. Philippine Greek, Russian, Indian, Crew etc.) giving a customizable option to Euronav
  • 4. To select the articles, rss-links, frequency, country, category and even size (articles with or without pictures)
  • 5. To view articles on the vessel’s internal network allowing the crew to use their own devices (BYOD, laptop, smartphone, crew’s pc etc.)

RESULT:

Our partnership with EuroNav resulted in:

  • 1. Installations on the entire Euronav fleet 50+ vessels as Evo News installation was successfully completed remotely within a week since our demo testing
  • 2. Sending more than 2.000.000 articles monthly to the fleet and more than 40.000 articles monthly per vessel
  • 3. Decreasing significantly the consumption of data needed
  • 4. Accessing offline all articles/news
Number of vessels Number of articles send daily to each vessel Total number of articles send monthly Data consumed per vessel on average
50 1.000+ 2.000.000 120Mb
We believe that we had a successful outcome as in total the RSS offers to Euronav seafarers a truly crew welfare solution.
