The UAE is planning to upgrade its Jebel Ali LNG storage facility with additional capacity, as announced by the country’s Energy Minister.
“Dubai will announce [it] once they land on the capacity … but definitely it’s an upgrade from the existing 3 million tonnes,” Suhail Mohammad Faraj Al Mazroui, the Energy Minister is quoted by Gulf News a saying.
However, the Minister did not disclose further details on the amount of capacity in consideration or whether the capacity upgrade will be added to DP World’s Jebel Ali Terminal.
The announcement comes in the wake of growing demand for clean energy reported in the country.
The UAE is already planning to construct an LNG import facility at the port city of Fujairah which will have an annual design capacity of 9m tonnes.
Dubai Supply Authority’s (DUSUP) revealed intentions last year to replace its 3 mill tonne LNG Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) with a 4.5 mill tonne capacity offshore unit in April 2015.
